Curriculum area intent & rationale/department introduction

Music is a universal language and surrounds our everyday lives. In studying music, we aim to give students life long and transferable skills.

These include:

An increase in confidence and self esteem
An improvement on mental health and wellbeing
Important life and social skills
A development of creativity and self-expression
An ability to goal set, self-assess and work to deadlines

Aims and values of the department

At Queen Mary’s High School, we strive for music to be fully inclusive for all students. Our aim is to ensure that students gain enjoyment, satisfaction and an understanding of music through a broad and wide curriculum that includes the key music strands: composing, performing, listening and appraising.

We aim to engage and inspire students to develop a love for music whilst developing their talent as musicians and critical engagement with music.
